On occasion my backup camera does not come on, leaving the screen black as I'm backing up. In trying to determine a common denominator, it may happen more frequently when I put it into reverse quickly after the car is started.

Have others experienced this or is it unique to my vehicle?

 

I had that happen just once in the last 10 years and I think you are probably right about putting the car in reverse before the system is finished going through all of the initiation procedures.

But if you have an ongoing problem with any of the dashboard etc. electronics have your dealer check and replace your battery before doing anything invasive. I was having a problem with everything resetting intermittently upon start up and Lexus advised major work starting with removing the dash which I wasn't going to have them do (9 mos. remaining on my lease) but the tech tried a new battery and everything was fine.

I have the issue with my 13' along with an overall delay with the head unit. At times i am driving fwd with the backup cam on for 30 sec after ignition. This issue has been ongoing for over a year with 2 head unit replacements and currently on my 3rd TAS with Lexus. I'm paying for a UL with no use of the camera. I'm a fool....
