Default Rear Sunshade Retracts When Reverse

Anyway to stop the rear sunshade from retracting when the ES350/300H is in reverse? I think that it's overkill, I can still see clearly. I have the backup camera and parking sensors, this actually irritates me all the time. Thanks in advance.

Lexus Personal Settings. You can choose to not have it retract when in reverse.
1- Check your nav screen for setting
2- If not there, then either dealer can change the setting or you can buy Carista app. and OBD2 bluetooth reader. Nice to have for future setting changes ( many to choose from) and diagnostics.

Probably not a good idea to turn off this feature because if something happens when you're reversing, the other party might state that you were driving with the shade up and they could try to blame you for the accident.

But if this doesn't bother you, then the dealer will gladly turn this feature off for you. Might as well have them turn on the open windows holding unlock button on the remote feature while you're there.

It is personal setting #36, and it is one of the settings that is in the group that can be changed by the dealer. The dealer will change personal settings one time for no charge. After that, any changes come with a charge from the dealer, and that charge can be ridiculously high.

However, with either the Carista smart phone app (+ the wireless OBDI connector) or with Toyota TechStream software, you can change that setting and many others yourself. The Carista app and the OBDI connector can be bought for a total of about $20, and the TechStream software, including the OBDI connector can be bought on Amazon for about $30. Besides the ability to change settings, either the Carista app or the TechStream software can be quite useful for pulling malfunction codes.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will reconsider turning this off.

I turned mine off using TechStream (i bought from ebay). I believe there is a delay option that associates with the rear sunshade. This is just to prevent the shade from moving up and down when switching from Park to Drive. You can either extend the delay if that works for you or permanently disable the auto down function.

With regards to accident when rear sunshade is up, my old E500 doesn't have rear camera and parking sensors like the current models. The rear sunshade is just up and down switch and never heard any issues (on mercedes forum) about rear sunshade being the cause of the accident.

I confirm Carista is a working way, I did it using it on my iPhone (and their OBD2 bluetooth reader) it only cost me the Carista subscription.
