Default Lexus asks for $507.15 to replace CV Boot

They said my inner and outer boots need to be replaced. I am clueless on CV Boots.
It is a 2007 ES350 w 75K miles.

$507 seems a bit high, but what do I know? Comments? Suggestions?

You might want to get a quote from a Toyota dealership or good independent who works on Lexus/Toyota cars. It will cost you a lot less than at the big L dealership.

Roger that! It is there for a water pump change out. Covered under an extended warranty. The CV boot is not. ****.

Do you have the lexus extended warranty? I had an issue with mine and had it replaced by the extended. They just couldnt bill it by just the boot as they can only sell it by the whole assembly.

The quote is in the right range. It is priced at 3-4 hours of labor plus parts...

Like others suggested, if you can't do it yourself, you can see a Toyota dealer or independent shop and save a few $$...

Default Warranty covered it! But not the alignment!

The extended warranty covered the repair which requires an alignment to be performed.
For some reason they did not pay for the alignment. WTH?

Seems like you have one of those dealers that is trying to nickel and dime you. Id start going to a different dealership. You shouldnt of even had to argue with the dealership to cover the boot. If the repair needed an alignment to be included it too should be done without fee. WTH is right.

the toyota dealership i went to who told me this wanted over a 1000 dollars saying i needed a new half shaft axle i informed them that it was under warranty from lexus.

Default Is the alignment necessary after CV boot replacement?

I've contacted the warranty company to ask why the alignment was not covered since Lexus said it was "necessary". I would think it was necessary since the axle was removed.

I've got a complaint with the warranty company filed. Lets see what happened.

Default quick inexpensive fix for slinging grease if ends are leaking

This problem has been address in the LX 470 forum and it works if the the CV boot is only slinging grease from the ends. Will not work if the CV axle is making noises and/or the rubber boot is ripped....Here goes, A special TOOL can be purchased for about $25 to tightened the existing clamps OR (the method I used) stainless steel radiator hose clamps can be placed over the existing clamp and tightened.. Take care to NOT cut into the rubber boot. These clamps can be bought at the local parts store. The size I used was 1" to 1 3/4"...Having the car on a lift makes it easy to assess. . Four clamps are needed to do both cv axles. Hope this helps
