Just purchased 5th Lexus. Still have 2004 SC430 & 2009 ES. On 2013 ES350, would like to have IPhone linked for phone only and a Samsung S4 linked as the music player. Is this possible? Goal is to have both devices active at same time - one as phone and second for music. Thanks.

 

I'm pretty sure you can't have simultaneous BT connections in the Lexus. I believe it's one or the other. That said, why would you want to use a second phone for a music device? There are so many other options, not to mention, even your crappy iPhone can stream Pandora, Google Music, etc...

 

ooooooo, you went there. :-) I suspect someone just got their new iPhone that matches the Samungs 4S' and they now want to use their iPhone too...

 

If you plug in the second device in the USB, you may be able to play your music and still use the BT on the first.

 

That would only work for locally stored music. That USB port is just used for storage devices (iPod, memory stick, etc...).

 

I actually had this experience last Saturday. I took my ES 300h in for the 15K service. I was having problems with my phone's music player. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5. It kept shutting down. The Lexus tech showed me how I could install a separate BT device for audio and the phone stays active.
Press the MODE button on the dash and go to BT. There is a button on the right that says CONNECT. Press that, and it will show what BT devices are connected to the car. On the right there is a button that says ADD. If you press that button and your device is on and scanning, you can add a separate BT device to play music while the phone will still work.

Does that mean you could put TWO phones online (BT'd) so if either "rang," you'd be able to talk hands-free? I often travel with both my business and personal phones and it would be great to have both going at the same time (although NOT simultaneously!)

 

Wifes's car and she has iPhone but no music/podcasts. Those items are on my S4. Be nice to have something good to listen to and help keep my mind off her driving!

 

Have service appointment at dealer on Wed....right side mirror does not point down when in reverse. Will see if able to program two phones as I have in mind. Will share results. Thanks all for input.

 

I need to correct my previous post. Although you can connect more than one BT device, the second device does conflict with the phone. I checked it gain this evening on my way home, and the car indicated the phone was my other BT device which was not a phone. Sorry for the misinformation.

 

Oh, well! Sounded too good to be true...

 

Two paired phones can be addressed by Bluetooth, one as the phone and one as the music device (stored or streaming) Jonmanch's tech was correct, go to Media/Connect and select the phone you want to change over for music.

The car will initially autopair with one (last one connected or first one detected), it will not ring and converse with more than one at a time. Common sense and state law leans me toward BT of the drivers (principle) phone.

Mike728 is on the right track however, the USB cord to the music device (even a lowly phone) is the preferred. Besides the on screen display and steering wheel control of tracks as with BT you will also charge the device and on the 2013's and on, voice command of the tunes..."Play Artist Stevie Ray Vaughn"

 

Dealer and their tech specialist confirm only one bluetooth phone can be connected at a time. Does not matter if one dephined as phone-only and second as music player. As suggested in earlier posts, alternatives are the USB or Aux connections.

 

As @HerveG pointed out, only one bluetooth device can be active at a time. This is actually a bluetooth limitation and not on the Lexus side.
