Default trunk open button not working

98 es 300, the button on the dash will not open the trunk, neither will the keyless flob, the button for the fuel door does work(same fuse) button in glove box pushed in. any ideas what to check. I unplugged wire connector at the latch, checked for voltage, nothing when button pushed. or should I check amps?

I have this issue too. Try this: Push and release the button in glove box three or four times.

For me it stopped working, the wires along the hinge have deteriorated. I have a mechanic who reconnected them together for $50. My trunk light and license plates lights stopped working as well and fixing the wires fixed these problems as well.

on further examination when I press the button I hear a click under the dash, is there a relay or something inline?

There is a trunk button cancel switch in the glove box. Have you checked that yet?

EDIT:
Just realized that you've already tried the button in glove box.

^Its the wires, constantly opening and closing the trunk causes the wires to rub against each other and eventually break.

Fixed!! three broken wires, its a bad design, the wires get flexed back and forth every time you open and close the trunk lid, its a wonder they have not broke before now

look under the drivers side hinge, see the plastic enclosed wires? remove the plastic, also black tape, 3 of my wires were completely broke, the trunk latch wires are red and blue, both were broke, also a green was broke, when fixed both my trunk lite and lic plate lite now work. since there is no slack in the wires I used a 6 in jumper wire and female connectors to reattach the wires.

Is it the same for a 95 es? I have a 95 and only the trunk release switch does not work, I've checked the switch itself and it does have power. Any suggestions?

@PoxLi
Don't believe that belongs in this forum, however, you might want to start by removing all the lining on the trunk and removing the plastic around the lock mechanism and see if that reveals anything. Can't say I'm too familiar with this type of thing, but thats where I would start. You'll need to remove the yellow handle, it probably comes apart in two pieces, then you'll probably have a fastener in the surrounding plastic trim. As well, there will be fasteners all around the lining of the trunk, but they should be pretty easy to see. Then if there are any screws or fasteners that hold the plastic around the lock mechanism will be revealed. Maybe take a picture once you've done that? I'd start with that.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to try to move or repost in a better place (but I don't know how or where)
