It was only a matter of time. Hit is a harsh word.
I was coming home from work, on a one lane blacktop.
There was an intersection coming up, travel is one lane until an island, then after halfway through the island it splits to two lanes (left makes left turn only type of thing). I was dead stopped but in the section next to the island before the split (one lane). I see it coming in my mirror. This big Lincoln straddles the double yellow to get by 4 cars and then tries get squeeze between me and the island. His two left tire ride up on the island and his front bumper starts at the rear corner of my left bumper and quarter. He doesn't stop until he gets to the top of the wheel well. WTF!!!
I had a little smudge from a shopping cart. Meguire's caruba cleaner wax took car of that. It ain't gonna help this. Is recently snowed, so the road sand on the car has been gound in like a 20 grit sandpaper. The SOB then says to me when we pull over, let me have your license and reg. I produce mine and ask for his. He says you got my tag, thats good enough. I'm outta here.
I told him to hold up, I'm calling the cops. (I love cell phones.
)
All of a sudden its a new ball game. He's now nice. We don't need to do that, no one is hurt. I said there is damage by you and I am requesting their presence. They come in less than 5 minutes.
I got all the info. Cop tells me this happens here all the time. He's trying to be some bigshot, hoping I don't remeber anything in the heat of the moment. Cop tells the guy, if the car don't fit, you shouldn't have passed, etc. Now its just the bodyshop time and paperwork. I should get his insurance to pay for a rental. I need the car to get to work.
It's not the 2 foot scratches and scapes, they can be fixed. Its the guys mentality or lack there of. I had a nice laugh with the cops. Turns out one had my dad as a teacher in high school (automotive). Small world. Turns out the guy who hit me, lives four houses from my best friend.
Smaller world.
Now I really feel part of the club.
I will keep you informed.

Oh Steve man, sorry to hear about that. Kinda weird that we just had our meet in South Shore a while ago (last Tuesday), and your '02 ES looked super nice then! It really sucks to see your car get bumped/scratched by some moronic driver (believe me, I had a couple accidents/incidents when I lived in Boston. No more putting up with Boston drivers for me
), but almost everyone's bound to get into a mishap like this one way or another. Good thing to hear it can be repairable

oh man
. i am sorry to hear. at least it is "i got hit" instead of "i hit someone/something" (like me!!!!
) i am surprised the guy didnt just bail out on you right there. what a dumb guy. out here in cali certain hit and runs are considered felonies, i would've let him run, then call the cops and call a felony hit+run w/ his plates, description, and witnesses.
I'm sure you will get your car fixed, which is good. But i guess it sucks to have a brand new ES go through this. Keep us updated with everything, ok?
take care, and just enjoy the year.

Sorry to hear your news about your car. I can relate. I take some teasing from my wife about parking far away from others in lots, trying to avoid dings and scratches, as I'm sure others here can identify with. I had just had my new 1999 ES 300 a few months, have since traded for a 2002 model, and had in my usual style parked it at the end of the staff parking lot at a hospital where I consulted for their psychiatric unit. I tended to be the only car that far away from the building, just as I like it. Anyway, some guy came barreling into the lot, took the turn too wide and plowed into the drivers side back corner of my parked car. Moved it sideways about 10 feet. Needless to say, I was sick when I was called from the hospital to the lot to deal with cops, other driver and see my baby. Seems like sometimes you try to do everything right and still can't cover all situations.
Anyway, SJ, I can relate and this too will pass. Thank goodness for insurance and good body shop professionals. Take care.

i do the same thing to avoid door dings etc . But one day i parked at the end of the lot and the car got broken into . I hate it when people have no respect to others property .
Stevie sorry to hear about your accident . Some people dont understand by cutting corners they are only saving a couple of minutes but puttting others at risk .

Insurance said its a no brainer. I was standing still at a red light, he hit my back side. He pays, for damage and a rental car. If it is over $500, he gets the surcharge and points.

Sorry to hear about your car Stevie, I've come real close to being hit like this a few times recently, I've been lucky thus far. I'm real glad I'm usually driving in smaller towns where traffic generally isn't so crazy.
heh stevie... the same thing happened to my ES about a month ago. my dad had the car then. he was sitting at a red light, and this blue explorer comes from behind and just completely rams into the rear end. it did over $800 worth of damage (minus labor charges) i still gotta take the car in to fix. sorry to hear that about the new car. hope all goes well with fixing it.

Then that would make me less of a man then he was. I did it by the books. That way, there will be no problems.
The body shop did the estimate today. He said it would be over $1000. "If you do this you do this right, and right from the start.
Lexus paint is over $300 because of the pearl metallic.
Clear coat has to go all the way to the front so it won't peel in a few years and the entire rear quarter panel up past the window and front to the rear door has to be done to blend it in.
I said, since I'm not paying a dime for this......do it right.
It should be brought back to the condition it was before he hit me.
