Ok ive been looking on here for a DIY on retro fitting some projectors in my 2001 es and i find a few threads on people that have done it but nothing on step by step

I was wondering if anyone could tell me step by step on how to do it?

Also everything i need like tools to what projector and what size to get to fit the H7 bulb if anyone can help that would be great because i know it can be done a lot of yall have done it.

 

There is a great step by step video on YouTube. The guy retrofitted Morimoto projectors to his Honda Accord, but our cars are identical in the process.

1. Remove the headlight
2. Bake it in an oven
3. Split it apart
4. Remove the halogen assembly
5. Install the projector, tighten it with a lock nut
6. Reseal and align the light

Complete kits are found on TheRetrofitSource. Look for MiniH1 kit for the H7 bulb.

 

Go to hidplanet. I currently have e30 sc430 in mine, but plan on rx330 e30 custom shield. Do your research.

the morimotos are popular but the projector itself is not the greatest.

the most important part of a retrofit is first to make sure you are aligning them correctly.
second is the parts quality.
some of my favourite projectors are the TSX ones, Lexus LS ones and MB E55 projectors.
the after market ones generally have a limited angle of light spread

 

wait wait wait...so let me get this straight : in step four you just "remove" the halogen assembly? theres no cutting or hacking away at the headlight to make the projector fit?

you'll need a very good dremel kit

 

No cutting is needed if you use the Morimoto MiniH1's, that's why they're so popular. If you go with higher end OE components, such as the TSX/RX/LS/MB projectors, you will need to cut the housing.

This is the kit that you need, just make sure to select the H7 Wire Harness.

Thanks for everyones help. So should i just go with the h1 or should i get the ls or rx projectors? are the h1 that clear and straight of a line? or would it be worth the hassle of cutting the housing to fit the other ones?

 

Honestly speaking, they are all pretty good, its really up to you, its do you want to put the work in. The H1 has a pretty crisp line. Dont get me wrong, the other 2 projectors are very nice and the line are very crisp and provide a good even amount of lighting.

LS most likely wont fit in the ES at all, RX it will, but trust its a lot of measuring and adjusting, just to get the cut off points to line up.

As some has stated, key thing to having projectors is lining them up correctly. Till this very day, I am still trying to align mines better, but I dont think I can any more cause I really thing the person has an accident that causes the housing to be miss aligned when you install them.

Either way, I would suggest the Mini H1, there quick and pretty good for what they are. I have them in mines, and I can tell you that, the lighting is pretty good, but it was not as wide as my old set, but my old set had a crapier cut off.
