Question "1996-2001" keyless remote??

Hey guys, check this that I found on Ebay. I'm doubtful that this would work on my '96 ES since I have the combo/key remote with the button on the side (no separate fob), as well as a valet key. But I emailed the seller my question, and haven't heard back from him yet. I'm hoping if any of you guys know what years this Ebay item would work. Thanks!

EDIT: no ebay links please. thanks

I think the ES only used the keyfobs from 97-98, possibly 99. The 96 has the "Lock/Unlock" key, and the 2000 has the current style, 3-button key.

Yeah, I think you're right about it. I have no gripes against the side-button remote key on my ES, but sometimes when I wash/detail or fuel up my car (with the key in my pocket), the remote out of the blue locks/unlocks my car. It's a strange nuisance, and I think it's probably something to do with the chip in the key. Anyone have this kind of problem also?

holy crap, that happens to me too. I thought it was a ghost or something haunting me. LOL. Once and a while, especially when I am washing my car with my keys in my pocket, the doors will lock/unlock my car. Weird. Im glad that I have another person witnessing this type of phenomenon.....

I've bumped it while washing, too. The newer 3 button keys have a much shorter metal part, so it's doubtful you could "upgrade" to the new 3 button style. Not to mention that the older models don't have the C-BEST (customizeable body electronic system) needed to make use of the added buttons.

Well Id rather accidentally trip the alarm then to accidentally unlock my doors in a bad area, ya know. Oh well, I will just have to be more careful. Also, I see these blank Lexus keys (keyless entry) on ebay? Will those work on any ES, or do you have to get it programmed?

You mean the valet or wallet keys (the ones with no buttons or controls), or the ones just like mine (with a lock/unlock button on the side)? I believe if you purchase any kind of Lexus key on EBay, chances are that you'll have to get it re-programmed by the dealership since the key was probably already programmed or made blank for another Lexus. They might charge you for the job (my dealership says they charge $45, which takes about half an hour). Make sure the FCC and part numbers of the key are compatible with your car. If you're unsure of part numbers for a certain key (I don't think they're written on the key itself), you can go to lexus-parts.com and browse through the "keys" and "key fobs" for your year and model. Cheers!
