Coolant drain and refill for 97-01
7.75L without the rear plug is excellent. Finding it can be tricky if you've never seen it before. Have you seen the picture I posted in this thread?
You can mix the fluids and be done with it, nothing to worry about, as the remaining amount is negligible. Even if you did drain the rear plug, there is still some old coolant in the heater core. Like you said, unless you had a badly corroded and/or neglected system, you don't need to stress over it.

This was the first time I ever performed a coolant flush, hopefully next time around I will be better prepared, but thanks for letting me know I don't have to re-do the job to get the rest out.

I netted Just a smidge over 2 gallons of fluid removed. Refilled w/ 1 gal RED (not pink!) Genuine Toyota Long Life Antifreeze Coolant Red (00272-1LLAC-01) + 1 gal distilled water. Coolant reservoir is half-full.
Questions:
Why did my drain plugs drip profusely when they were open enough to let coolant flow out through the drains?
Why didn't Toyota give us an opening in the skid plate so it doesn't have to be removed?!!

Getting to the rear petcock is a contortionist nightmare! I had to rest my phone "flashlight" on top of the exhaust to see what I was doing.
Ramps are a necessity. ...Not enough clearance w/ jack stands.

I think you mean the belly pan to get at the radiator tap? I don't recall a skid plate on our car anywhere. The reason is that if you put an opening in the belly pan big enough to get your fist or a tool in to twist the petcock, you'd defeat the purpose of having a pan - keeping water and road debris out of the engine bay.
