Hey, this is my first post @ clublexus.. I figured this would be the best place to ask a few questions about my 98' es300 so here goes:
1) Is there anyway to add an mp3 cd disk changer in the glove compartment or trunk? (when the car was purchased a cd player wasnt added... I want to know if I can add something to the stock face and have it actually work)
2) Will putting 17" AT Italia INOX rims [tirerack.com] on this car have any negative effects on handling/transmission/power?
3) Will lowering the car say 1"-1.5"s have any negative effects?
4) Does anyone know the price range on tinting the windows? Here in NJ there is a law limiting the % tint that one can put on a car
The reason I am asking so many questions is because I get my license in less than a month (come december 2nd) and I plan on modifing the car a bit to improve the appearance and sound system. Thanks in advance for all your input.
welcome to cl. You can either replace the stock radio w/ an mp3 player, or you can add a mp3 player/cd changer w/ FM modulator. I don't suggest doing fm modulator. About the rims, I dunno. Good tint is about $250-$300. Get 20% if you can.
get your tint from tropic tint in union nj . They charge 240 but do a great job .
i have a kenwood cd changer in the trunk . It works great with my stock radio and cost me a little over 200 .

No, just make sure you get the right offset, which should be anything between 43mm-45mm. This is so the tires won't rub on the strut or fender. Ideal tire size is 215R50/17.

It will only if you use OEM struts, so definitely upgrade them to either KYB or Tokico.
The bigger wheels may slow the car down a little if they're heavier than the stock wheel/tire setup. Other than that there shouldn't be any problems as long as the offset and overall diameter is correct. I would also second the strong suggestion of upgrading struts when lowering, the stock struts won't stand up to the extra abuse too well.
I would guess you could add an FM modulated mp3 changer like was said, I'm not familiar with any of the mp3 product lines; but I would also recommend a new HU rather than FM modulation. FM modulation limits the frequency range and signal to noise ratio of your changer to the more limited range of FM radio, so you lose SQ. If you're at all picky, it would be better to replace your stock HU with an mp3 unit.
