Many will know what i'm talking about, but when my sub hit loud note, the trunk flap is making an awful noise, people outside may think that the ES is a piece of crap from that noise.

Have any people have tackle this problem ?

Do not have that in my 2007 UL edition with ML sound. Sounds like the flap is loose possibly? Did you check all the plastic snap on connectors?

If you are refering to the black liner attached to the inside of the trunk lid, why not just remove it? You could store it in your garage and replace it before you sell the car.

BTW- I have never heard such a noise in our '08.

The only noise my ES makes when I close the trunk is the license plate frame smacking against the trunk. I put some thick felt pads behind the back of the frame in the bottom corners. That took care of the problem. Other than that, my trunk closes with a solid thud. It does not sound flimsy.

I've had two ES350's, 2007 & 2010, with no problems in the trunk.

Okay Blueshark, What exactly are you refering to when you use the term "trunk flap."

Obviously none of use have clue what you are talking about. Also, please be a bit more descriptive about the "awful noise" so we can a) understand what the issue is, and b) maybe provide some help.

My experience is that when the trunk slams, it sounds "tinny" because of the light weight of the trunk lid and the license plate frame back end rubbing against the lid. Nothing will sound as good as those old Cadillacs with the automatic trunk pull down.

I remember in the past, a lexus member, kyle i thing demonstrated in a Youtube video the air duct in the trunk that vibrate ( i think the air duct have a flap under the car) , When hard bass hits, the flap vibrate and make an awful noise, it is the same as mine.

I'm thinking of blocking the air vent in the trunk to see if it helps, if necessary , i will relocate the air flow in another way. I some have some solutions, i'm all ears.

Update: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R4JElT8V8U, this is the video showing the trunk air duct flap vibrating.

No, my licence plate is dynamated, in the middle of the video, there is a notice of the trunk air duct flapping, we can see where the air ducts are, at the bottom side of the rear fenders in black.

the noise resonating from there could cause that awful metalliic vibrating BUZZING noise.

Wow, interesting video for sure--a great ad for Dynamat. I have used Dynamat on three (very noisy) Hondas with good results, so I'm already a Dynamat advocate.

To your specific problem--yes, the flap noise is obvious & obnoxious. The video clearly claimed the flap could NOT be Dynamated without explaining. I wonder why? I think that is the question you need to get an answer to. I suspect it could not be "fixed" because the flap is an important, functioning part of the vehicle's HVAC system, and if you seal it up or cover it up, you will severely restrict air flow in the vehicle, which may not be a good thing. Removing the flap altogether may allow exhaust gases or even water/mud to enter the trunk or even the interior.

You may wish to visit your Lexus dealer's repair shop and ask some questions about that flap. There's a good chance one of the mechanics can explain what it does & how it works, which will help you decide what to do with it.

Of course, you could always turn the bass down. Oh wait, I'm sure that's NOT the answer you are looking for is it?
