center brake light replacement
I have a 1996 ES300 and can't figure out how to get at the center brake light to replace. I see the posts for newer models but that does not work on the 96. Anyone know how to do it?
I believe all you need to do is get into the back seat, grasp the cover of the center brake like cover firmly and pull towards you. It just snaps into place. It may be a bit stuck because of not being apart in a long time. I had to replace mine (96 ES300) this past summer and I puzzled over it for a while then just pulled on the cover a bit to see what moved where and it came right apart. Don't remember the size of the bulb but I think it was so common I had one in my tool box.
Did this yesterday on my 95 es300. I took a 2mm, "L" shaped hex key and grasped it with a pair of vise grips on the long side. Slip the short side under the cover between the cover and the deck near one side. Turn the key so as to grip the cover and pull hard. It will pop from the clip on that side. Repeat on the other side. Bought bulb at Napa, I think the number was 921. Not completely sure. Cover just pushes back into place.
My thread I made long ago for my 1996 ES on how to do it properly
