Default tranny flush

would someone be able to provide any information on the necessity of transmission flushes. theres a lot of mixed opinions. I know to never get a flush done without a filter replace as well. But i dont want to be taken for a ride money wise, and dont want to have any further problems as well. Just wondering if anyone with more car expertise than me could provide some information. Thank you

Model -- Year - Miles ?

The transmission pan has a drain plug (and a crush ring). The dealers just do a simple fluid drain and refill -- it replaces only part of the fluid.

The filter is simply a screen and does not need to be replaced unless something is up.

Look in your manual for the correct fluid. The Toyota Type IV fluid is less than $5 at the dealer and a new crush ring is $1. Get the fluid changed from your local mechanic at your next oil change - it is just as easy. You can then have a look at the fluid that come out - if it looks dirty -- have it changed again at the next oil change.

The transmission in my 00 300 and my 05 330 both take 4 quarts of Type IV to do a simple change. I get the parts and my local mechanic charges me an additional $20.00 when he does my oil.

Dropping the pan is not going to get any more fluid out.

Here is a link to a DIY I wrote. I don't know why the pics aren't there anymore. This isn't a flush. The pump in your transmission pushes the fluid out. If you want 100% clean trans fluid in your car this is the way to go. Other members will argue that a drain and refill is just fine and I can't disagree with them. I use this 100% change method because it costs only the price of 4 more quarts of fluid and the time to do it is comparable. The DIY is for my LS 430 but I also used on my son's ES 300 and LS 400.
