Default Is it safe to change the transmission fluid?

Hello everyone, I am new to the forums. Just bought a 2000 GS400 last week. i have a few questions..
The car has 195,xxx miles and i am debating weather or not to change the transmission fluid. I have no idea when the last fluid change was and the fluid isn't black but it does seem a bit muddy. I've had some horrible experiences with fluid changes on cars that are high mileage and had never had the fluid changed.
Have any of you done this before?

dont think there will be an issue if you just drain and fill.

Drain and fill, then add this filter to your tranny line that goes to radiator. Then drive 5k miles, drain and fill, drive another 5k miles, drain and fill, then another 5k miles drain, drop pan and clean pan and change internal screen. Fill and change the filter you added to line for a new one. Then you are set for 50k miles.

Just drain it from the tranny line going to the radiator, this will dump out around 5 quarts, disconnect the tranny line to the radiator, start the car in park for 5 seconds then turn off, this method is more efficient i think then just unbolting the nut on the bottom of the tranny pan, as only 1.8 quarts come out of that

DO NOT DO A COMPLETE FLUSH
