Default Turning off the automatic locks

I would like to stop my 01 ES300 from locking automatically when I open both the doors and the trunk. It is especially annoying when I have unlocked the car and opened the trunk remotely and just as I finish loading the trunk with my groceries the doors automatic lock.

Can this be changed?

Thanks,

John

I think that's great that it does that IMO. I'm not sure if you can even disable it...GL

I believe it relocks the doors after a certain amount of time (30 seconds?) if you don't open the doors after unlocking them.

I'm still trying to find out if you can set the doors to automatically lock when the car is put in drive/reverse...

I have the same car, but I am not clear as to what you are doing. Are you unlocking the doors and trunk with the remote, or with a key?

The only time my car will re-lock itself is if I unlock the doors with the remote, and do not physically open any of the doors within about 1 Min or so.

Otherwise this car will not re-lock itself under any other circumstances. Additionally it will NEVER lock itself automatically if the keys are left in the ignition.

So maybe I am missing something in your description.

Phil

Step 1: Open trunk
Step 2: Load groceries
Step 3: Unlock doors
Step 4: Profit

How come you are unlocking the doors before unlocking the trunk? Why not unlock the trunk, do your stuff, and then unlock the doors?

You can check with Lexus to see if the 01 ES can be reprogrammed. I know for the 01 GS, IS, LS, and SC, they can customize their settings. For example, the automatic door lock is set at 30 seconds from the factory. This can be changed to 60 seconds, but it cannot be turned off.
