Default 5K Service

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to get my 5k service. The dealer said it will take about 3 hrs because of the pedal shave and software update for the brake override. I hope all goes well. I'll write an update after its done...

Yes, let us know how it goes. I had mine in last month for the 5K service and after some discussion I declined on the brake mods. I thought that the shaved pedals that I looked at were almost too short and I never use anything but the standard floor mat so didn't want them to do it. I wouldn't have minded the computer flash but they said they were not allowed to do only that part. They also advised that with the computer flash the black box will now record more information than just the last few seconds before airbag deployment similar to what the Prius has done for some time. This they said is why after a couple of claims by owners that their cars were accelerating even after the fix we haven't heard any more for a while now. Like the San Diego Prius driver they can now tell what pedal(s) you were pressing and for how long.

Everyone I've talked to that has had the flash done says that the fix works very well, if you press both pedals you slow down as desired but the engine is still operating and everything else is working as it should.

You've probably seen the thread here about the bad brake pedal mod. My dealer only has a couple of senior techs doing this work and the pedals they had shaved looked very well done - just a little short for my liking. And if you are not satisfied they will order a complete new pedal when they are available.

I assume your dealer is busy. I had the change done on my 08 and also had the oil line upgrade done in an hour. This is not a big deal and the SW update works as it should.

I just had the first 5k check done today. I asked the service advisor to do only the software update of the brake pedal recall and he said he was not allowed to part of the recall, only all of it. I told him OK, but I will file a grievance to Lexus of that fact when according to this board, dealers across America are doing only software if the customer asks. After checking with the service manager, the advisor said OK, he will update the software without cutting the pedal or modifying the floor.

BTW, here in Arizona, the charge for a 5k check is $152.00. My first one was complimentary but I will probably take the car to the Toyota dealer who charges only $65.00 for the same thing.

Ed - what dealer was it that you were able to convince to do the software only? As I said earlier I declined on the mod but would go back if they would now do the software upgrade only.

Ed: Thanks, Jeff turned down my request for the computer flash only a few weeks ago. I'll talk to him again next time I am in. You are satisfied with the way the brakes function now aren't you?

Besides oil and filter and OBDII inspection, what exactly does the dealer do at the 5K that I can't do at home?

Ed - Check your manual. I believe it states that the 5,000 mile service is complimentary.I know mine will be. I was notified via email and voice mail by the dealer.

salesman has nothing to do with it....again corrections were put in place back @ Lexus-Plant--Japan during build out. If somehow yours was built back in Dec., which I doubt then even then local dealer-Serv dept would have done updates before car was released easy way for them to get pd by Lexus Corp.. One more thing you can do is register under Lexus.com ( VIN # available ) and you will exactly what was done once car was brought on lot...they record everything...prep work etc...Enjoy the Ride !
