Post ES300 Year Build Dates?

I was reading a thread in the GS forums, and got me thinking the same. The ES says it was built in 93 I believe, but when you look at the original user manual and certificates of delivery it says it was purchased new in early 1996. So what does this mean. I have always been a bit confused with this, as that is a 3 year gap between build and purchase?

I don't have one in the drivers door. I know it should say on the VIN etc, but what I find odd is that it was bought new in 96? I can't see the car sitting around for 3 years doing nothing.

It doesn't matter when it was bought. It matters when it was manufactured.

That's nice, but had nothing to do with what I was asking really.

Well if you are asking what year your car should be advertised as, It should be advertised as the vehicle model year it is, which is when it was manufactured.

He's correctamundo on both points, which leads me to the question, "What was your intended question, ParkerGen?" and a follow-up question of "Why are you (seemingly) suddenly selling your gorgeous ES?" We'll miss the ParkerGen if he's not hanging out with the ES and/or CL bros anymore...

I guess what I'm really asking is, why is there a 3 year gap between build and sale? Or was it built later but on a 93 platform? Bought in 96 new, but build date 93??? Has anyone else got such a large gap?

And I'm wanting to buy a new Lexus (as I've had my eye on a certain model lately unless I change my mind at some stage), that's why I'm selling. As they manufacture good quality vehicles, as I have noticed with the ES at it's age, drives very nicely. Compare them to lots of other cars, especially of the same age and they are way ahead in quality and build.

Why do you think your car was built in 93? You say the sticker is missing? Or it's somewhere else in the car?

It's registered as a 93.

Yes, in NA we just enter the VIN at http://www.carfax.com/ and that will give the year.

Not sure if this will work in OZ.

Ohhh, I think I know the issue now.
I'll check the actual VIN and see what it says.

Yep, it's a 93, which still makes me wonder what it was doing until it was bought.
