I have a 1997 Lexus Es and want to do interior and exterior mods to my baby since there are hardly any performance parts. Here are the list of things I want to do and I want to do them for a very resonable price so basically something that doesnt require a lot of money to do an impossible to a possible.
1. Clear Corners
2. Change my tail lights to the 2000-2001 tailights.
3. Change my steering wheel to the 2002 es's 3 spokes steering wheel without effecting anything.
4. Most luxurious cars have new automatic shifting things that moves from side to side instead of going straight down like the es I think the 2002 es has it.
5. A good looking automatic shifter that fits with an overdrive button. I want the levoc ones but I heard it doesnt fit properly.
My mom bought the 1997 lexus es but the car will be mines when i attend college this fall. Since my mom paid for the car and will be driving it for awhile is the only reason why I didnt get a car that I wanted. So basically im trying to make the best of it and put the modifications listed in the car once i get and i wanted to know if it was possible with a resonable price. If anybody knows the answers to those I would appreciate your opinion or knowledge on it.
There's not much you can do on our cars, As far as we know, there are no commercially available clear corners. People have removed the orange piece to make their own, but this can be a little tricky and you might not want to try it in your case.
I don't know about the rest of the stuff, but as you already know, these aren't the easiest cars to modify.
Alvin, how did you do it yourself. I have read a way to do it and it sounds pretty detructive to my car. How did you do it? And did you damage your car any in the process? Thanks
Is any part of the light broken?? Looks like you broke it. How did you take it apart, does it come open easily or does it require breaking? Thanks again
Razo makes an automatic transmission shifter w/ an OD button, it's about $150 just for the shifter. It looks like the "stick" on a fighter jet. as for taking out the stock T-shifter...that's another story that takes some work and lotsa patience for all i know.
oh, and i'm soooo sorry that the ES300 is not a car that you actually wanted, and that you "have to make the best out of things." it's actually a nice car that's pretty fast, stock. as for modifying to a 3spoke steering wheel, just make sure whatever you put, you keep your airbags in operating condition...it's not worth it to take 'em out.
i used to have a 97 es300..... i put in 17 inch is300 wheels and paid the price.... 4 flats...
but it does handle better when u put the new wheels in..... you can take curves much faster and really enjoy driving....
.... i traded in my es300 last year for a 2002 is300
i luv the car.... it's so much fun to drive... but there are times when i see an es300 and miss it.. it brings back memories
Wow, I just saw that pic of the melted light man. Ouch...that looks like allot of work to repair it, if you are going to actually cut open the light I would recommend using a precision Dremel rotary tool to make fine cuts, but if you really want to leave your headlights unmodified I would recommend using a heat gun and meting the glue to open the lights, pull out the insert them push it back together with out altering its original packing. But hey you got clear corners and no one else has them, well other then the few people that have guts to do what we did. I have never seen anther ES300 in person with them in our body style and every one always asks me where I bought mine. Hehe.
its not as bad as it looks, I just melted it apart and used
hot glue to seal it. At that time I did not have a Dremel rotary tool. The first light took 1-2 hours, the second less then 1 hour.
