How does the auto-dim feature work? Does the mirror dim only when a bright light shines through the rear window, or does it automatically switch to dim-mode at night when the ambient light fades?

it measures the difference between the light coming through the windsheild compared to the light coming through the rear window... and the amount it dims varies upon the lumin difference between the two...

so for the most part during the day time it never dims... but at night it is constantly changing darkness depending on how much light is coming at it from the rear...

mine was $45 and was easy to install... you just run power and grounf under the headliner and down the left front pillar... then you hook it to a power and a ground. make sure that the power you connect it to is one that only turns on when the key is in the ignition... basically just like you would wire a aftermarket deck...

mine i had put on a new windsheild when i was replacing it due to cracks... i just had the window installers glue the auto dim mirror on instead of the OEM one they were going to put on...

if you are not replacing the window you will need to remove the old mounting bracket from your windsheild... there are many methods to do this yourself... but i recommend to taking it to an auto-glass place and asking them to do it... they wont charge much ($20 maybe) and you wont risk damaging your windshield.

hope that helps

Where did you get the mirror from or did you just go to the dealer?

I totally gotta get one of those. I never know which direction I'm travelling. If I had to call in an emergency, they'd be screwed.

"Which lanes of traffic is the accident in, sir?"

"Uhh... well... it's travelling AWAY from my house..."
