Does not use the ES/Camry platform transmission. I'm just speaking for "our" shift patterns. If you look in your specific transmission manual, it will list the minimum/maximum speeds to upshift/downshift.
True enough...as I do recall that in my manual, somewhere about 40 mph for 1st to 2nd and about 70 mph from 2nd to 3rd (and shortly after I hit the velocity trap and finish line). There is a 2003 Camry that sometimes shows up at my track, may have to give that one a try.
put if you are travelling in a speed higher than the max speed in a gear you are down shifting to, doesn't the computer acknowledge that you are travelling to fast and it won't let you shift into that gear unless you slow down?

Yes. The ECU will not send an upshift, or downshift until you meet the minimum/maximum range for a gear. You're not going to shift out of O/D doing 130mph. The ECU is simply going to wait until you hit the maximum gear for O/D, then throw you in it.
AFA engine wear. There shouldn't be any.
Also consider that the ignition timing is retarded to excessively. To the limp mode level. (That's *5btdc) to reduce power output & hencce-drivetrain shock during shifting.
