True enough...as I do recall that in my manual, somewhere about 40 mph for 1st to 2nd and about 70 mph from 2nd to 3rd (and shortly after I hit the velocity trap and finish line). There is a 2003 Camry that sometimes shows up at my track, may have to give that one a try.

put if you are travelling in a speed higher than the max speed in a gear you are down shifting to, doesn't the computer acknowledge that you are travelling to fast and it won't let you shift into that gear unless you slow down?

AFA engine wear. There shouldn't be any.

Also consider that the ignition timing is retarded to excessively. To the limp mode level. (That's *5btdc) to reduce power output & hencce-drivetrain shock during shifting.
