Exclamation Need Help!! Electrical Prob!!

Hi I have a 94 es300 with a kenwood dpx MP4030. Ive never had any problems with the electrical system except about a month ago the little check engine light came on which according to the manual means there is a problem with the electrical system. Everything was working fine and i didnt have the money to get it looked at so i left it. A couple days ago i started the car up and the HU came lit up and came on as usual but then shut off. I had blown a fuse so i replaced it. The new one only lasted about a minute and then blew again. I tried 1 more time and it blew again. So the next day i went out and started checking the fuses in the engine compartment and they were ok. When i started the car up the check engine light had gone off so i tried putting another new fuse in the cig/lighter spot again and it still blew after 1 minute. I think the light may have gone off because when u pull a certain fuse i think i read somewhere that it resets the light?? would the light come back on if there was still a problem?? well i dunno if i have a short or what or what to do about it so any ideas would be appreciated. can i fix this myself?? will it cost a lot to get electrical problems fixed?? thanx, Nick.

Cool

Power / ground to the radio is shorting, or you plugged something into the cig lighter other than the cig lighter.
The wiring that goes to the cig lighter can't pull much power, which is why it's a small fuse. The wiring is very, very easy to burn in half & when that happens, it'll normally short.

Check for shorts to the radio, and the cig lighter.

Cool

A short is what happens when you put a positive to a ground. It goes BZZZIIIIIIT and sparks, heats up & melts stuff.
I'm saying it could be melted wiring if you pulled a lot of current through the lighter. A cell phone wouldn't do it tho.

I would be the head unit power is grounding on somewhere, or making intermitant contact. Pull the deck out & check it's wiring.
