I recently drove my mothers '98 ES and noticed some serious vibration coming in through the gas pedal. The steering wheel is solid - no vibration at any speed. I could detect the gas pedal vibrating significantly at all speeds, worse at the higher RPMs.

Any ideas? Would the drive shaft bearing or the transmission mount result in this? The car has less than 100k and complete service performed at the dealer.

Check the motor mounts.

Hi...would the motor mounts wearing out cause vibration through the gas pedals? Is their an easy way to check them?

I had vibration that was felt through the gas pedal and it turned out to be the tranny mounts.
Check all your mounts.

Thanks Reggiek. The dog bone one I can check visually. I think it's solid, no tears/rips. The front lower motor mount, I read in another thread about having somebody rev your engine to see if it rises...I'll do that. The others...I have no idea how to check!

Sorry ssultan , but I can't say I ever experienced a vibration on the gas pedal, and even if I did, I wouldn't really know what it's attributed to. amf1932's suggestion to check the motor mounts sounds like a good start. If anything else, try using the CL search engine and see if other Lexus owners have experienced the same thing.

I did that LexusK8 but didn't dig up anything worthwhile. Kind of surprised at the vibration since my 97 doesn't have it. The car is mint and driven VERY peacefully....I'm hoping for some more good ideas to look into before taking it to Lexusfreaks mechanic

I got a chance to take her car out again on Saturday and Sunday. Am now convinced the vibration is NOT originating in the gas pedal. I end up securing/resting my leg against the side of the center console while driving and I only feel the vibration when I do so. Also, over 130km/hr I can feel the bottom of my seat vibrating as well as a distinct hum/electronic buzz in the wooden steering wheel.

Is it possible that the engine is vibrating? Or could it be the transmission. Could the engine mounts/transmission mounts be gone when the car has been so lovingly driven over the years and would they cause such a vibration in the driveline when they begin to deteriorate?

4 way alignment and balancing was done by lexus about a month ago. I'm really hoping you guys can help out before I have to resort to visiting a mechanic for her car.

Do you feel no vibration in the steering wheel?

If not, have the balance on the rear wheels checked.

Well there was a buzzing in the wooden part of the steering wheel...as if I was physically hooked up to a heavy machine ...but nothing audible. Also, they checked the wheels a few days ago...and charged me for it! Nothing.
