What is best product for cleaning and polishing the plastic headlight covers? How hard is it to remove the covers so I can do the inside too? Any step by step instructions available.

About a hundred years ago I was a helicoptor crew chief in the Army. We had some sort of polish for the plexiglass bubbles that cleaned and polished out small scratches and abrasions. I think this would be perfect, but I don't remember exactly what it was. Any suggestions for a good plastic polish? Thanks

 

wet sand and buff em.. nothing else will clean em up as good

anyway, I've used Meguiar's plastic cleaner, it works great. I think it's #9, I forget....

I just used regular liquid auto body polish; It made a BIG diff, but not there yet. I did get 'em clean enough to see that most all the dirt is on the outside.

I'm going to try Semichrome; Harley riders use this to polish their chrome parts. Makes chrome sparkle. Looks like an abrasive paste to me. Think I'll try it over the turn signal first just to be safe, in case it reacts with the plastic.

""about a hundred years ago??"" Almost, I was in the Army in the 60s, and we used light helicoptors to spot for our artillery fire.

 

That works but because of the older plastic, when you do that method, you actually break the molecular bond of the plastic...and it will cause spiderweb cracks if done too much. Toothpaste works well since it's a natural abrasive.
