Extra Smart Keys
I recently acquired a 2005 ES 330 sedan that included one master key and one valet key. I decided I needed an additional master key for my wife, and want to have as a spare if we lost one.
The local Lexus dealer quoted $350 per Key, the local locksmith between $185 and $200, and the only hardware store $165 for each one.
I did some research, then ended up purchasing an OBD II programmer and two master keys with Lexus logos for less than $75, including taxes, shipping, and even laser cutting by photo for both keys.
Programming the transponder chip inside the key was quick and easy. After programming, the keys, going through the motions of getting all three buttons to work on all the keys took a little more time.
The programmer I purchased supposedly works on several different Lexus and Toyota models, for a number of different years. And I purchased from a Seller who offered a full refund and free returns so there was no risk at all from my end.
Some places offer a key programmer rental for 3 times the price I paid. There are a lot of options out there and your results may vary. Just thought I would share my experience.
