Dealer wants $370 for a master key set of 2 and a whole new computer for the car to read them. Dealer said computer is $1500 but I will get it for free if I buy the two keys. From talking to the dealer, Lexus understands how chit happens and gives out these computers for free if you spend $370 on keys plus $200 on labor.
I have the valet key and the original cut key with no buttons in it since I swapped it into the aftermarket flip key, that I lost.
I was hoping I could buy a used key, take the computer out of the shell, and put it in my old key that's already cut, and then have it repogrammed to my existing computer at the dealer for $55.
It would save me several hundred dollars and if anyone can give me some advice I would much appreciate it. I just want to be sure and Club Lexus gives me certainty.
As long as your car and the new key you're getting are an 02-05 GS then the computer should be able to be reprogramed. It will cost more than the regular programming cause they have to wipe the system and start over but it should work.

So you have a valet key only?
You can't have them re-program another key (specially a used one) without the master key. Unless they told you they can do it for that price.
