We’ve been rocking the one key given to us when we bought this RX 5-6 years ago but I want to get some spares.
Called Lexus and they quote $350 for pairing a new key with the car.
I’ve seen relatively straightforward methods for pairing new keys - essentially locking/unlocking the master door switch multiple times in an ordered procession. So I am thinking about buying a spare key from lexusparts.com and pairing them myself. Is there something I am missing about pairing more keys that justifies $350?
First confirm that you have a master key in procession.
The cost should be key blank
Electronics
personalization of the key [cutting]
Programming cost. [Should be 1/2 hr at Lexus rates ... and if they include the cutting the charge may go up to 1 hr]
Programming steps us listed in this Forum. You can look under DIY sticky thread.
I purchased a replacement master key on eBay for $48.09, had a mobile locksmith meet me at our Toyota dealership in Madison, IN after hours and he cut it in his van while I waited ($25). I programmed it myself using the instructions on this forum.
The master key is the big black one that includes the remote control mechanism. The grey key is a valet key and I don't believe you can use that to program a master key, of course you may know this already.
Yes that is for everything. I pulled up the info from my old eBay purchases and their price has gone up $20. It states in the ad, "100% genuine OEM circuit board/button pad/transponder in a new aftermarket case”. Mine has been working fine for well over a year now.
