Under-dash rattle SOLVED
I have a 2016 ES, and about a year and a half ago, an annoying rattle began to develop deep in the dash down low near the console. I won't bore everyone with all the details that happened over time, but it turned out to be a loose heat shield on the underside of the car that was protecting the floor under the cabin from heat coming from the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter. It was rattling in the airflow and wind. I added some coin washers for more rigidity and tightened the 3 mounting nuts, and the rattle has gone away. If you are having this same issue, carefully (when the car has cooled-off, etc.) check the heat shield(s) to see if that might be the cause.
