Anybody here having trouble with the transmission jumping when shift from D or N or P to reverse?
The engagement pretty much shakes the whole car.
I notices this on my wifes ES350 yesterday. I drove it last week and everything was normal.
The trouble is my Techstream is not working and I can’t scan the car
Mine usually does that right after I start the car when it is cold out and both the engine and transmission are cold. The RPM's are slightly elevated during that scenario and it feels like it is slamming hard into reverse. Waiting a few seconds for the RPM's to drop down usually helps soften the shift.
Not sure if that is what you are talking about, but it sounds similar.
Yes, mine does this when I go D -> P -> R without moving the car (e.g. I put it into D and then change my mind and want to put it into R), I think the locking paw gets caught in the gears and the car shakes when it tries to release it.
Workaround is to just move the car a little while it's still in D, before shifting to R directly, then seems to be fine.
I fixed my Techstream and scanned the ECT but there was no error codes. Then I reset the memory and drive the car to learn my driving habits and for now the transmission shift OK. No more transmission kick. I will monitor the situation and let you guys know.
