Default Steering wheel issues: 1997

I've done lots of reading and it seems there is a big difference between 1997, 1998 and partially the 99-00 on ES300's in particular.

I found a local junk yard and there is a few RX300 models and ES300 in this range. My 1997 ES300 with a 00 RX300 wheel mounts up great but once you plug it in the Cruise control doesnt register and this whole controversy of Stage 1 vs Stage 2 air bags overshadows the fact that 1997's have a FLAT yellow plug. All the ones I've found from the 99-00 range at the yard have a more rounded vs flat plug. i've read ppl spliced the wires on some, and i'd consider doing that but im currently wondering if theres an issue with the cruise control on that wheel, or if its a wiring issue.p

Just a friendly heads up that 1997's (at least) have a way different Airbag plug in than models after that.
