Radiator - 1998 ES300
Hi,
1998 ES300
i was told my radiator has a hairline fracture. Can this be repaired? What material is the OEM radiator made of? My car has 210,000 miles on it. I'm assuming it's the original radiator. Although I'm the second owner and not sure if it was ever previously replaced.
Is it ok to drive it with a hairline fracture? I've had to top off fluid maybe twice per year. Slow leak if any. I don't notice anything on the ground but I smell it now and them after I park the car and get out.
if I need to replace it, what is a good affordable radiator?
Thank you!

Hello,
Cracks usually don't appear out of the blue, it likely means that the material lost its properties, including strength, driving like that is asking for trouble, there will be a day when a whole weakened piece will simply fall out and it won't make for a very nice day.
I would really suggest to find a new radiator, towing the car home at best, and replacing an entire engine at worst will be a lot more expensive. You can find a Denso unit at RockAuto, probably won't be just as good as OEM, but still better than most.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

If you buy from Rockauto punch in this code where it says "how did you hear about us"
220726520198754796
5% off.
Check the transmission cooler lines to see if the pipes are clamped down properly, twice now I've had a Denso where they were loose. Supposed to be tightened at the factory, be careful not to apply too much force that's why it is torqued out of the box people kept stripping the threads.
