I think my best bet is to take it to a mechanic. It is hard to find a good one, but we did about 3 years ago. I trust him. And yes this is one of the recall cars. We got the notice in 2008 or so but had no problems then. You had to have had the problem and filed by the end of 2008.

But...I am now believing this is something else.

I think that is it too. I'm not real happy with them. I think they just threw their hands up and gave up.

You would be amazed at how nasty looking the oil comes out when you do an engine flush.

Does the mechanic get paid by lexus for a sludge problem but not for normal wear? Maybe that's part of the diagnosis.

Actually, it is a 14mm wrench. Toyota/Lexus doesn't use 15mm on anything, because it is not a JIS standard. I've been wrenching on Toyotas for (gulp) almost 30 years and I've never seen a 15mm anything on them. If yours is 15mm, then it's not original.

And I agree on the MMO, I would use that over Seafoam. Change the oil, substitute one quart with a quart of MMO, run it a few heat cycles (long drives), then drain and repeat.

Yes, the drain plug is 14mm on all the Toyota's and Lexus's I have worked on.

Just follow the oil dip stick tube and you will know where the oil pan is.....
