Default Excessive oil consumption???

Wander is this normal or .........and does anyone expriencing it?
i change my car engine oil every 3k miles, but when it's around 2.5k the engine light in the dash would go on, when i check i found out it's missing 1 quart of oil. My mechanic checked the car and find no oil leak. this is the second time i changed the engine oil after i bough the car and this happen twice too. So i google it and found this in consumerguideauto.com.

Oil consumption: Excessive oil consumption caused by sludge buildup on the cylinder heads. Company is extending warranty. (1993-00)

Mine is consuming oil around the 3K mile range after a fresh oil change too. I have 165K miles and the motor still runs strong, no hint of lost compression.

I think its more due to valvetrain wear than anything else. More often than not the valve stem oil seals just get old, brittle, and leak oil into the combustion chamber, there you will see the lost oil.

With a stock exhaust system with 3 old clogged catalytic converters you will probably not see any oil smoke until its far too late, but for that amount of oil to be burning you would have to have a piston ring failure or more.

All in all, its normal wear and tear if you will. Things wear out and need replacement.

I am just waiting for my motor to kind of......"die of old age" so I will have a reason to drop in a nice GTE swap. But until then the car right now as it stands is all I need for daily use.
