Battery Drain from A/C left on after shutdown.
I have a 200 ES300. If I leave the A/C on when I shut down the engine, it will quickly drain the battery. Analysis had it drawing 17-18 amps in this state. Not a problem if I turn off A/C before shutdown. Anybody seen this before, and what it takes to correct it?

Don't believe fan is the issue.
Hi BDSL. What is happening is that I operate the ES-300 with the A/C on and shut down the engine for a while. I don't believe I am hearing the fan operating. Even with that, it should not continue for too long a time. Any thoughts?

You need to be more specific.
When you say Shutdown, are you taking your keys out of the ignition?
If you are doing this then no, that's not normal.
Or are you just turning the engine off but leaving electronics on, radio, ect.
If you are doing this then yes of course thats normal, if you leave the ac turned on the fans will run constantly and drain your battery.
Why are you doing this anyways? Just turn the ac off, it's pretty simple. Also assuming you have a standard 12v battery, they aren't meant to be discharged very much, so running your battery down is not good for it anyways.

Hope this clears up the simple situation
crwys - this is a simple situation. I drive the car with the A/C on. I turn off and leave the car (e.g. - go into a store, into the house for the night). When I try to start the car after a while (e.g. - next morning) there's no battery. Brand new alternator and 1 year old battery. Both tested good. Tested for battery leakage; when car stopped with A/C switch still on it registers 17-18 amps with engine off. Expected drainage otherwise (w/o stopping engine with A/C turned off before engine shutdown. Are you saying that drawing 17-18 amps is a normal thing when the engine is shut off (with no fan)?

You still did not specify if you are leaving the keys in the ignition (leaving car electronics on, engine off) or if you are taking the keys out of out the ignition. (Turning off engine and electronics)
Since you said you go into the store or into the house for the night, I can only assume that you took your keys with you and the car is completely off. So :

Yes, I am taking my keys and locking my car. I am not leaving the keys in the car with anything on, like the radio. I'm leaving and locking my vehicle; like NORMAL PEOPLE do. Why the overemphasis on whether the keys are left in, counselor? This is not determining what the definition of "is' is. This was meant to be a simple question to a simple situation.
If I drive my car with the A/C on, and shut down the engine (turn the engine off by turning the key counterclockwise), go away (with the key removed, locking the car and having the key in my pocket), then come back after some time (take the key out of my pocket, push the button on the key to unlock the car, enter the car, put key in slot, turn clockwise, tick-tick-tick - won't turn over - dead battery). Analysis says that there a 17-18 amp draw when the engine is stopped when the A/C is not switched off. Is this normal. If so, it sounds like a design flaw, otherwise we have a problem Houston.
My question is has anyone seen this situation before, even on another Lexus/Toyota type vehicle. If so, what did they do to fix it. If not, I'll take it to the auto electrical specialists to find out what's happening.
Thank you!

Lol how is this a simple situation? Seems pretty complicated if you can't remedy the problem.
If you look at the 2nd post, BDSL, also did not understand your question. Thats why I said you need to be more specific so we can first determine if its user error or an actual problem with the car.
Atleast right now you know a temporary solution. Hope you get it figured out.
