New to CL, need some direction, please!
Hello All!
I am the owner of a 1991 Lexus ES250. I know this is the 300-350 forum, but I could not locate any earlier model forum. I have had the car for a year now. Purchased it from my sister, who had it 3 years prior. I find it's a good car. It has alright gas mileage, speakers are wonderful, and I like the way it drives. However, I have a had a few problems with her, and I'd hate for her to turn into a deathtrap. I am ready to throw myself into my car and fix a few things. I'll be doing what work I can afford myself, and if it's far beyond my knowledge then the mechanic will have to repair the car. In my honest opinion, the problems I have had seem to be minor except for the CV Joint Axle. I have a few questions about repair, and repair manuals.
1. Brake Light does not proceed to Stage 2 from Parking Light. Tried replacing bulbs, fuses, Brake Light switch. Check box under the top of trunk, for loose wires, plugs, et cetera.Tested wires, have good connection. No sure where to go from here other than replacing wires and harnesses.
2. CV Joint Axle- Loud clicking sound from driver side axle area. Clicking sound was much like putting a baseball card in your tire. The sound would happen as I was accelerating, decelerating, and turning. Looked online at a few sites to see what it might be, pointed me towards the axle. Had a mechanic look at it he said it was CV Axle, and that it needed to be changed. I purchased the part from the many auto stores here in town, and will soon change it. My question is about the repair manual. I know that it was made when Lexus was still under Toyota(please correct me if I am wrong), and it is basically a spiffy and classy 1991 Toyota Camry. My car has a few Toyota shout outs per se, so I was wondering if the manuals can be used for both cars. Our local library has Auto Repair manuals on their shelves, which is a plus. They don't have any for the Lexus, which sucks, but they had a manual for the Toyota Camry 1983 through 1991. It's a Haynes manual, and seems to be very descriptive and detailed. Can I use this manual to aide in the repair of the drive axle?
Anybody who can point me in the right direction to which part of the forum to go to so I am not spamming this main one here, or anyone that can help me with getting some info on the is more than welcome to contact me here. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to this club. You will find very knowledgable and helpfull members here.
In terms of a manual, I personally joined AllData?. It's around $17, per year and should be adequate for what you need, I think they have a free trial but not sure.
Their website is ALLDATA.com
Post pictures of your car if you can. We love pictures.
