Ok, old thread instead of making a new one.
How do you know if the PCV valve needs to be replaced?
I just noticed that my ES is low like a half of quart of oil and i did the oil change 2500 miles ago.
I know is either the valve rings or the PCV valve, but how do i know if needs replace.

burning lots of oil. 1 quart per 200 mile
Also I had changed the ocv due to a misfiring. Which it did corrected. Note: used aftermarket brand. Also aftermarket pcv valve. Also note lots of smoke from muffler on start up.

Question- I did as you say and checked under the front valve cover no sludge found, is it possible that I may have sludge under my rear valve cover?

b) aftermarket oil control valves are ok. It would have been better to get the original PCV valve, but you're still probably ok. What you NEVER want to do is get aftermarket knock sensors. They seldom work properly, and are labor intensive to install and than remove again.
A/F sensors are also components that you should consider getting OEM. Although most of the time you can get away with the correct aftermarket ones. Avoid however the Bosch brand.
c) What color is the smoke at start up? More details needed.
