Default trouble code 1133 what to do?

P1133
Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit Response Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
What do I need to do to fix this? Is this something I can handle or take to a dealer?
Thanks in advance.

Did this come on even after you reset the code?

It has actually gone off on its own recently. Will it be back, should I be worried?

Might have just been a temporary sensor reading. Codes can come and go. P0171 is a notorious one I know of, in fact most common I have seen in this 1MZFE engine group.

Let me know if it comes back.

If I remember correctly I think its the o2 sensor, the one before the convertor.

It is. The left side of the engine. No response means its dead.

If you are facing the engine standing on the passengers side of the car, then it would be the left side of the engine. A better description would be the rear bank of cylinders, the bank next to the firewall. The AF sensor is the one between the exhaust manifold and the cat. converter.

If you go to dealership, they will get you for about $250 for the sensor and at least and hour for the labor. You are looking at a $350 to $450 dollar replacement.

The same sensor can be had from a toyota dealer for a little less or online for even less money. It can be put in yourself if you are mechanically inclined, you have an O2 socket and wrench and a long arm. It is a tight squeeze to get at this one as it is the hardest to reach of all your AF/O2 sensors.

The light only came on 1 day and hasn't been back since. Do I need to go ahead and change out the O2 sensor or am I okay now?

You are ok for now. The light not "on" anymore simply means that the signals measured or produced by all your sensors are within established limits. Don't be surprised if the CEL comes back and you get a code 1133 again. You may have an O2 sensor that is getting lazy and not totally faulty yet.
