I replaced the battery in the key (w/ remote) for my '96 ES 300 and now the key will no longer open the door locks. I'm told it can be reprogrammed. Dealer said I had to buy new key for $350 and pay them to program. Hard to imagine a replaced battery results in need for new $350 key?! Can this be reprogrammed by me or someone other than dealer and/or a new key w/ remote be purchased for less than $350? Thanks. JKH

 

Did you check the "Remote" switch on your dashboard? last week I thought the battery on my key had suddenly died but then discovered that I had inadvertently turned the car's remote entry function off. Once the car's Remote switch was in the "on" position again the key's remote entry button worked fine. In my '93 ES the Remote switch is to the left of the steering wheel low on the dash, next to the mirror and headlight washer controls.
