can the outside/inside shell be replaced? Or does the entire mirror assembly have to be replaced? I saw a Lexus dealer on ebay sells the color matched outside and inside shell as a kit.
There are many of these kits on Ebay for 100. Is the black interior shell easily replaceable you think with this kit? it seems cheaper and easier than taking off the door panel.
Looks like both your frame and shell are busted so you may as well get a complete assembly. Search ebay.

Oh yeah that's easy. Pop the glass w/ a flathead screwdriver by tilting mirror up with your hands first then you'll see inside where you can slot your screwdriver between the glass and the clips that hold it on--you may have white adhesive to deal with. just peel away. the glass will pop off but be connected by a wiring harness. (of course be careful so you don't break the glass) then use a correct size screwdriver (the screws are extremely tight) to pull away both mirror frame/cap. they fit together like a puzzle.
when you put back together, don't force anything. both halves should come together elegantly with almost zero resistance.

Thanks I appreciate the information! I will purchase the 100 dollar kit and be careful to follow the steps.

Thanks so much for your help and directions! Anyone that has a similar repair should buy this shell kit from Lexus vs an all new replacement and taking off the door panel. I owe you a drink if you are ever in south jersey. Took me 30 mins from start to finish.
