Default Drivers side mirror died

My drivers side mirror only moves side to side. No longer does it move up and down. To my surprise, the dealer says they have to replace the whole mirror
(housing included). I hope the paint matches.

Check auto salvage yards. Swap out the guts with your current housing.

They have to replace the housing because the mirror doesn't move? Gee, good thing your seat moves or they'd replace the whole car. That really sounds nuts.

I had the exact same problem. The tech said that he replaces a lot of the mirror gearing; said it was one of the few weak link, but the problem goes beyond just our model. Housing stayed the same.

Anyway, the repair took less than an hour.

It's still covered under warranty. I just don't lke the fact that the housing has to change
giving me a concern about color matching. Maybe my concern is overblown?

I'd be concerned also. Sounds like maybe the dealer is trying to pad his take from Lexus. Maybe you should ask him WHY the housing has to be replaced. Is there a different dealer you can get a 2nd opinion?

I also have an 2006, my up/down on the driver's side died last month. Dealer ordered parts, which had not arrived at the time of my scheduled maintenance appointment. Sent mobile tech out the next week to fix in my driveway. Can't be that difficult a fix. Didn't take that long.

It is very easy to fix! The mirror glass just pops off the motor assy and then you can remove the guts. The whole mirror does not even have to come off the car. Pearlpower did a great writeup on this....

The fact that many older thread no longer have pictures or images is a real loss.

Is Pearlpower no longer on this site? I know I have been away for a while but I haven't seen him since I have been back online.

CHECK ebay BEFORE YOU OBTAIN THE MIRROR FROM A DEALER. yOU'LL SAVE AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF MONEY. FOR PARTS, EBAY IS MY FIRST SOURCE, IN FACT EBAY IS WHERE I'VE PUCHASED MY LAST THREE LEXUS CARS.

I was at the stealership this morning and they had a white/ecru 09 in the showroom that looked identical to my 06 until I noticed the side view mirrors. When did they change these and add the turning signal light, I've never noticed them before!!!!!

Has anyone attempted this mod?

09's the first year with the integrated turn-signals in the mirrors.

It's been talked about but, I don't think anyone's tried to add this to a pre-09 car. I don't even want to imagine what the dealership would charge for a set of 2 mirrors with the turn-signals in them!

Received the car back yesterday and from what I can tell, there are no issues with the color of the new mirror not matching with the rest of the car.
