Last summer the AC in my 2012 CT200h was kahootz. Took it to Lexus Dealership, they evac'd the lines and repumped with refrigerant, watched it and it lost 1lb overnight, they put in leak detector and couldn't find the leak, they said evaporator core. Price to replace evaporator is prohibitive right now because of getting to the dash innards.
I'm going to replace the evaporator myself in one of the apartment garages. I'm also going to replace the condenser since it's cheap and the expansion valve, and then I will take it to Lexus or Toyato to evacuate and repump with refrigerant. I live close to work so I can take the uber to the office relatively cheap.
Can anyone help me with information on taking apart the dash so I can replace the evaporator? Condenser and expansion valve are pretty straight forward, I just need help to figure out the evaporator!
Here's some dashboard pics that may help you. It looks as if though the dashboard lifts straight up via clips. i don't see any bolt holes there.
I'd also look at parts diagrams to get an idea too. looks like the upper half separates from the lower. don't know how much you have to remove... maybe look at Prius forums since the cars should be built pretty similarly and have a similar layout. i don't know it for sure but i'd suspect they use the same evap parts
If this helps, don't forget to hit the "like" button =)
I forgot to update this but I ended up successfully replacing the evaporator, expansion valve, and condenser. The evaporator was the most daunting task because of the difficulty in removing the air conditioning unit from out behind the dashboard structural bar. I honestly feel like an engine swap would have been easier than this just based on videos I have seen in the past on YouTube.
Lol.
If anyone is planning on replacing their evaporator at any point in time please feel free to shoot me a message because I have PLENTY of tips that I can share about the process.
