Odd that the Lexus shop said they didn't know. From what you are saying it's having to do with the ambient sensor not functioning properly.. They should turn OFF/ON automatically depending on the ambient (light/dark). Do they turn ON early morning while its still dark? Do they also turn ON when it is already daytime? See from those results. You can also just put something over the sensor, which is on the passenger side dashbaord towards the windshield. With your lights on AUTO in daylight, place a book or carboard over it and see if they turn ON. Which they should since it's "dark" then take it off and it should turn OFF. If this doesn't happen then something is wrong with the sensor. Im not sure if you can reset it. Check the manual if anything or have Lexus look at it when you take it for service.

In daytime, my lights will turn on as I enter a tunnel and then auto turn off automatically as I exit, on both of my Lexus cars.

Miamiboy87, it works properly, when i drive under tunnel my dashboard light reduces, and headlights turns on and joins to daylights, when i exit tunnel, my dashboard lights brights up again, but headlights still on with daylights... not only daylights left... yes it works properly.. morning when still dark headlights turn on, when i power on my car in daytime then turns on only daylights..... dont know what to do...

Yes, all of my Lexus vehicles function properly as well.

One thing I noticed, I have dark tints and the auto headlights will turn on earlier before it's dark and stays on longer. When early in the morning, the auto headlights will stay on longer until it is fully bright outside.

I remembered there is a head light sensitive adjuster in one of the menus in the navigation system display......

I think it's a bad light sensor on the dashboard somewhere.

my dad's old 2006 Lexus GS300 has same issue you are describing that appeared. It didn't do this when the car was new. We just lived with using it as manual lights and eventually got rid of the car.
