I purchased a used private party 2013 f sport ct200h 1 month ago. 34k miles on the clock. Test drove and inspected, no problems. Researched reliability (number 1 determining factor for purchase). With 36k miles on the odometer last week all the lights on my dashboard lit up, lost power steering and brakes. So the car is 4-5 months out of warranty period but well below the 50k mile mark. Come to find out it is a master brake cylinder and boost ecu short/ failure The whole assembly costs $2500 not including 5 hrs of labor. I contacted corporate through Lexus of Seattle and to see if they would subsidize the repair or help out in any form. They flat out denied any assistance. As you can imagine I am not pleased with my Lexus experience. Did not want to let this go unnoticed, just in case other owners started having similar problems so they would know what to expect.

First off, sorry to hear about your problem. However, getting upset about being rejected for asking Lexus to give you a handout for purchasing a car w/o warranty is almost laughable. If anything, you could guilt-trip the party you purchased the car from.
True, no pity party here. Lexus under no obligation to repair according to their terms. Just sharing my experience as a public service announcement for those who might run into same issues.
You are at the mercy of a Lexus dealerships tech stream scan tool. It would be pretty interesting to see how this plays out. If in deed it really is that part that failed. I'm curious what the previous service and accident history is on this vehicle. It is essentially a Prius+ and the reliability of these things are amazing.
I too agree that you can't expect Lexus to foot the bill for your repair. It's like trying to stand on top of a 5 foot deep pool of water and not expecting to fall in and get wet.
Meanwhile there is a recent post of another member hitting 300,000 with no real major repairs.
Your complain stirred up some curiosity for me, so after some Google searching using Prius instead of Lexus I found there was a recall for the Prius. This is interesting reading here

There might be hope for Lexus footing the bill after all!!!
Did your dealer even look at it? If Lexus sees a failure of this magnitude at such an early point in the car's life, they should look into it. They may have assumed that the previous owner trashed the car and was trying to get rid if it.
I'm the owner of the CT that recently broke 300k miles. I can tell you that I drive my car gently and maintain it well. You should always ask for service history from owners before buying from them, or take the VIN to a dealer and see if they have any service history.

Lexus used to have outstanding service even out of warranty. Not so much these days and I suspect like most companies, they are trying keep costs down. What Lexus doesn't realize is they are losing a huge majority of Lexus customer base due to un-Lexus like service. Now that Lexus has gained on the German brands, I think they feel they can treat us as such. All that said, the underpinnings are still Toyota and for the most part reliable unlike the German brands. Best of luck to you getting Lexus to help and please keep us updated.

German brands would do the same thing, they would have denied you warranty claim also.
Who in their right mind would pay for this claim outside of their legal warranty period. Goodwill, maybe from the German brands. That Goodwill money if gone unused, is the bonus management gets. The less Goodwill then more money in their pockets.
