Default CT platform -- Prius

It was my understanding that the CT used the same basic underpinnings as the Corolla -- and the Prius.

Knowing that they can do a lot with a basic floor -- they say it's also used in the RAV4!

So -- looking at the CT over the weekend ... I noticed that it's possible to change the spark plugs without removing the upper cowel and wipers as necessary on the Prius.

I'm wondering how much of the CT is a Prius ?

That's interesting. With all the development costs that went into the Prius -- I wonder why Toyota did not use more of the Prius developing the CT.

Seems like a lot of money spend on what is a rather low volume car -- they only sell 15k of them in the USA

who knows... it was probably cheap to produce the prius. the CT is for a niche market of people wanting the luxuries of a car while getting prius MPG.

Actually ... the Prius was very expensive to engineer and produce. Toyota lost money on every car .. and did so for years.

It's amazing how much has to work together for the car to perform. They list the CT and the Prius as being on the same platform -- but I guess it other flexible. I can't imagine they designed two separate brake systems or the all electric AC.

I drove the hybrid ES last week and was impressed --- it has a larger 4cly motor -- but the rest looks the same as the CT/Prius under the hod engine/ inverter.

CT/Prius V/ Prius V---very, very similar cars in terms of the platform and mechanics.

Not that much money actually, CT is closely related to Toyota Auris (Scion iM in U.S.).

The CT seems to be based on the Corolla/Scion tC/iM, while the entire powertrain (engine, transmission, battery) is straight from the Prius.
