I may have missed this already, but I did a search on here and couldn't find anything. But does anyone know if a Corolla Hybrid is due out anytime soon? I know Toyota plans on offering a hybrid option on all of their cars by 2010, but I would think the Corolla would be the next logical step in that direction.
From an mpg standpoint, I would imagine a Corolla hybrid to almost be comparable to a Prius. It'll be interesting to see how it compares when it does eventually come out.
Although, I'm surprised Toyota hasn't put one out already considering Honda has the Civic Hybrid already on the streets.
Well the Prius is similarly sized as the Corolla (length-wise) and does compete directly against the Civic Hybrid, so Toyota may not be in a hurry to make a Corolla Hybrid.
Nothing yet. I wonder if the 2.4 litre Corolla/Matrix version will have a hybrid since it's already on the Camry.
The Prius may be 3" shorter than the current Corolla but it's classified as a midsize. The HCH-II is a compact (although the interior size is very close to the Prius. Hell, the wheelbase is identical!).
I have always considered the Prius as a Hybrid Corolla (albeit being $7k more).
Perhaps, when the next gen 100+ mpg Prius comes out, they'll price that near $25k, and a Corolla hybrid (with the current 45 mpg technology) will be closer to $15-18k.
Wow and I thought the EPA fuel economy (pre-2008) was inaccurate....
lol... no, you guys just drive too fast hahaha.
I dunno. I haven't matched Transport Canada's rating of 4.0L/100km city and 4.2L/100km highway (although I have had a 4.2L/100km tank but all city). I did beat the old EPA of 55mpg (4.3L/100km) with one 4.2L/100km tank and two 4.3L/100km tanks.
w/ the Prius supposedly getting its own line of hybrids -- would Toyota make hybrid versions of all their Toyota/Lexus products? Could be overkill ...
I was thinking the same thing, but I still believe Toyota is determined to offer it as an option across the board. A lot of people (myself included) are not crazy about the stying of the Prius's. However, many do like the looks of the Corolla and maybe don't have the desire to stand out on the road as driving a hybrid (like they will driving a Prius). I love the fact that Toyota offers a hybrid option on the Camry and I think the Corolla is the next natural step.
No one knows what they have planned for the soon-to-be Prius line, but one could assume the stying will continue to be very distinct from other Toyota products (ala Scion).
I didn't think that was possible. Probably the same people that think putting your money into a 1% yield bank savings account is considered an investment. Woo-hoo, now we're gettin' wild! >>>> <<<<<<

Ok, let me rephrase. Many prefer the looks of the Corolla to the Prius
