Default 15,000 mi. service

Anyone have this service done? Dealer is encouraging me to do it on my CT to the tune of $400....no wonder!

What's actually done with this, anyone know?

that's the first major service for the car, below FYI

any other dealer you can try? get a quote, it does vary from dealer to dealer, $400 does seem like a lot. My 15k service for the GS460 was $196.75 here in CA FYI

Well, I don't live in Beverly Hills , and to do things like that, $200 is high, $400 crazy ridiculous.

not sure where you are at but keep in mind in CA , labor rate is around $150 /hr

so $200 is more than fair for a big service like this, if you think 200 is high, wait until you hit 30k service

Did you skip the 10,000 miles service? That's the one with the oil change. Usually the X5000 miles services are in-between oil change service and they are cheaper unless it is the one that changes brake fluid or something. Maybe they are trying to charge you for Both 10K and 15K service together? $400 is pretty crazy for 15,000 miles service. The only actual work for 15K is rotating the tires other than all the inspections. I think my Lexus dealer charges $95 for 15K service and that's really not cheap for just rotating the tires and inspections.

Just my two cents on the dentist (or doctor's bill)...........

Yes it may show $1200 as total BILLED to the insurance, but the insurance will only pay "so much". Meaning what the insurance will eventually pay out to the dentist is probably around 35% to 50%(if lucky). Also keep in mind ALL THOSE people working at the dentist office and all the equipment PLUS INSURANCE TO INSURE IT ALL (including malpractice) and all that. Not to mention all those years of education (money spent for tuition and expenses PLUS opportunity costs during the educational phase for NOT able to participate in other activities such as time off for other things like partying and whatever. So opportunity lost in some respects)...... also across all professions, there was a study that showed dentists (and psychiatrists) have have the most suicidal rates. So it must be very stressful for them???

Just my two cents.....

Smile $19.99

Just took my 2013 CT200h in for it's 15,000 mile service today. They rotated the tires, inspected the car, topped off the fluids, reset the "maintenance required" reminder, and washed my car. Total cost was $19.99 at Marion Toyota.

I agree with whlkev! $200 is already more than fair for this "big service". $400 is ridiculous, bordering on insane. The most labor intensive item on this list is a tire rotation that tire stores typically do for free. I just had my dealer mount and balance 4 winter tires for $66. That leaves a whopping $334 to change the battery in the key fob, lube the drive shaft (?), and re-torque 8 or 10 bolts. That should take .... what .... 2 or 3 minutes? The rest is looking at stuff! This is less than an hour's work if they're really, really slow. The only actual "part" is a key fob battery that you can buy anywhere for less than $10. The rest is walking around under the car "inspecting".

I'm a big Lexus fan, but their dealers absolutely gouge for service, and especially "scheduled" service. They get away with it because they tell us it's normal for a "premium brand".

Rant complete

to be absolutely fair, my awesome Lexus adviser actually didn't charge me for the 15k service, so total cost of maintenance up to 20k for my car is $0

I change my own oil and oil filter and can do most of my own maintenance.

If you're not mechanically inclined be sure to shop the Lexus dealerships and even try a Toyota dealership. The CT engine and drivetrain is very similar to the Prius so a Toyota dealership would have no problem servicing your CT easily....

I'm all about saving money as well... I wouldn't want to pay for something that is overpriced or even retail. I always shop around. Amazon, Ebay, Lexus of Sewell are great resources for parts, etc...
