Lightbulb First Service

Hello Lexus Drivers,
I got my new RX 350 in the beginning of current month (May 2014) and I wonder about my First Service.
When should I go for it?
and What is going to happen then?
How long it will take?

The first one is a very simple service:

**This complimentary service is performed at 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever occurs first
Rotate tires and adjust tire pressures as required
Reset maintenance reminder light
Road test vehicle
Check installation of driver's floor mat
Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
Program Lexus Personalized Settings, if requested
Visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors

My dealer quotes 60 to 90 minutes.

Check your manual for all of the available personalized settings on things, like door locking/unlocking functions, beeping alerts, etc., so you can have them set like you want them at this free service. When I bought my Toyota truck several years ago, I had them turn off all of the seatbelt warnings because I always wear my seatbelt and the dog was setting off the passenger side.

This sheet makes it easy. Print it out, mark up any changes you want, and take it with you to your service appointment.

As has been already mentioned above, check out personalized settings. The must-have is enabling automatic rear door opening with the press of the button on the door instead of it simply unlocking.
I also did the seat belts and disabled auto moonroof opening with the key unlock-hold unlock remote combination.

The loaner is included in the service. I prefer to drop my vehicle off in the morning and pick it up in the evening instead of waiting. Think of it as a long test drive. Twice, I requested '14 IS250 AWD because it is a blast to drive.

Isn't this the standard setup? On my '13, when I push the button on the tailgate it unlocks and opens, and we didn't have the setting changed. Is that what you are referring to?

Also note that the loaner cars vary between dealers. Mine does not offer a loaner unless the appointment is expected to last two hours or longer.

Yes. Some dealers appear to be changing this feature themselves before delivery of the vehicle.
I believe complimentary service always includes a loaner so customers get used to the Lexus service.

You are very welcome. Glad I could help.

The IS is awesome. A fun handling car, with great power and fantastic looks. It's a lot of fun to own and drive. The power never gets old.

The RX is more "Lexus" than the IS, or at least what I've always considered Lexus to be. Smooth, quiet luxury. I get huge grins on my face driving it, from the shear refinement of it and the smooth way it does everything.

It allows us to have the best of both worlds.

You can only close windows using the physical key. Turn the key to lock, then lock again and hold.

Default Power back door opening using the back door opener.

Vlad: I went to Lexus of Roseville, CA, with an appointment and the intention of having my rear hatch button set to power the back door opening.
The tech and a service person said this started in 2013, we have a 2011, yet on pg 625 my owner's manual says that "Power back door opening operation using the back door opener button can be changed by your Lexus dealer."
I'm going to call the service dep't on Monday to clarify.
