so the nano does fit in the covered USB/12v area. i bought a super short iPod cable that doesn't stick out (this one has a 90 degree like angle), about $4 shipped, and then had the 12v cap removed entirely by the dealer at my 5k service. the nano JUST fits upside down and the slow retracting cover does close, although with a little bit of oomph.

i saw this mentioned on a UK forum and didn't know if it was possible. but it is. now i pretty much never remove the iPod unless i'm updating my songs, and it's hidden away from potential thieves.

 

danggg super tight fit... do you know if you have an iphone if you can bluetooth the audio? im thinking of gettin a CT, and debating if imma stick my iphone to AUX and leave it in the gap hole up top

 

yes, i have my iphone running on BT also, but BT is so limited in what you can control in the car while driving. basically track up/down and that's about it. and when you go to the end of your song list it gets confused and "stuck". one time it went to my videos and started playing the audio from that.

with the iPod (or iPhone) running thru the USB, you have full control of your songs, playlists, artists at all times. much nicer interface.

i also cannot be bothered with plugging in my iPhone every time i get in the car as i rarely take my iPhone out of my purse. digging thru my bag to find the iPhone sometimes takes a while too

and in the past I have plugged in my iPhone and put it in the hole above, but then it's upside down (unless you use the cradle which is ugly IMHO)

so the hidden nano is nice. i wish they had just run a USB slot thru to the center compartment to begin with. but this is a nice compromise.

 

Very interesting... I use my iphone thru BT audio, and have it in the cradle thingy.

Lately, the cradle has been rattling so I'm thinking about taking the cradle out.. Plus it makes it harder to control the seat heater..

i can't be 100% certain that it's the same part, but it looks like it is.

basically you need to crack open the little plastic keychain part because you don't need that (and it won't fit). and that reveals a super short FLAT ipod cable w/ 90 degree angle USB connector.

Yes, the middle part just snaps off.

Note, I did not remove the 12v cover (yet). so, my nano does not fit with the door closed.
