Finally went to the Lexus showroom to check out the CT 200h.

As soon as I sat in the car, I realized this would not be right for me. I thought rear visibility was so poor as to be pushing the limits of safety.

Pity as I was really looking for a high-end sub-compact car.

 

Funny how people see the same thing so differently. I found the read visibility to be very good in the CT.

For bad rear visibility try the Prius. I had trouble with the split rear window.

 

^ true. i'm coming from driving a convertible hardtop with a wing cutting through the view, so i thought the ct200h was a good change. the side view mirrors are big, too, so you can see a lot of space behind you.

 

I found the visibilty good also. Now the wifes Prius is a different story.

 

Can't be as bad as the FJ Cruiser. I think an armored M1 Abrams tank has better visibility.

 

It really depends on what you driven in the past. The CT has excellent visibility, try driving a hatchback with the rear window at an angle, now that is poor visibility. The Prius, BMW 5-series GT, Porsche Panamera, Convertible hard-top or any sportscar/convertible. The FT cruiser is also a challenge to drive!

 

Its not as good as the C30, but its pretty darn good. Folding down the rear seats make a difference, as it does with most hatchbacks.

 

OMG. Don't get me started on the FJ Cruiser. Also, the sideview mirrors on the FJ are so narrow that they cause more problems than they're worth! Opens up a whole bunch of blind spots that can't be visualized. Most unfortunate.

Keep in mind that the rear headrests in the CT can fold forward, giving you great visibility if you keep the rear seats up. My Mustang has the same feature for the same reason. Those headrests kill visibility.

 

Folding the headrests helps a lot, but the CT really needs blind spot monitoring.

I also found the rear visibility a bit restricted so I removed the rear headrests and that helps a lot, I didn't know they folded forward. Maybe I'll put them back on and fold them forward and see how that goes.

 

As far as blind spots, I adjust my side mirrors so I can see my blind spot, and use my rear view to see the rest everything else. I don't have to turn my head.

 

I guess I must be used to it. I don't find at all that the rear has poor visibility. I adjust my side mirrors (which are decent sized) so I can see what's on the side and behind me.

Hopefully the next generation CT has better rear visibility. We'll find out at the end of 2016 when the 2017 CT comes out...
