this is some bull ish! i got pulled over before for an aftermarket exhaust, and the cop said it was fixable. I took it to the state referee with my stock exhaust on and passed smog which was about 40 bucks. They said I had to goto court and I had to pay an extra 150 for some court fees and stupid ish. So essential i paid extra just to drive a stock car. cali has the dumbest rules!

Something doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t understand why they would issue you a $600 fine when they didn’t inspect your car for illegal modifications. I don’t recall having a modified exhaust is illegal unless you dropped the cat or is over a certain decibel.
The last time I got a ticket for my exhaust, it was fixable one, not that having an exhaust was illegal (at the time) but the decibel level may have been over the legal limit, I think it was 95db. I would have dodged the fix it ticket but I didn’t have my document proof of my decibel level from the manufacturer. I had to go to the state ref to get a reading of my decibel level and when I passed they issued me a certificate to keep in the car just in case I get pulled over again. However, I never had to get a smog check for a modified exhaust but I did have to get a smog check for modified emissions.
Like I said, something doesn’t make sense here unless the law has changed or that ticket is an error.

Damn...sorry to hear that op. Living in CA is seriously starting to suck.
Maybe you should consult an attorney. I would try to fight it just because they didn't inspect it for cats or anything.

I think the $600 is a fine if you don't fix it and just pay the bail amount. Not too long ago, I got a fix-it for tinted windows. Got the usual letter in the mail and the bail amount was $230. Got the ticket signed off, took it to the city to get it cleared, paid $20 processing and that was it. I never paid that $230.
