EV Price Wars Thread
I cancelled my i4 order because the dealer wouldn't take my money to ensure I qualify for the older EV rebate (I don't qualify for the new ones). Kinda sucks as I really liked the i4 but can't justify the "new price" against a model 3 performance (yes I know they differ but I'm after more performance than luxury and a 20k delta doesn't fly even if I could afford it.
I don’t know if demand is softening but the $7500 tax credit is def helping move these. I work at a BMW store and last summer you couldn’t keep and iX or i4 in stock when the qualified for the $7500 federal tax incentive, now they dont demand has fallen off a cliff. We have people walk in and ask what do you have that qualifies for the tax credit lol. Makes it hard for me to tell how popular EVs are vs people looking for a deal. I think V8s would sell great too with a $7500 incentive
Re: EV demand
Yes, it has softened because like is back to "normal", but wait until crude oil hits around $90 again. Demand is going to skyrocket like before especially with the new EV rebates.
That's also probably why EVs are so popular in Cali....our gas prices are always higher (for myriad of reasons). I remember during the pandemic when I filled up our X3M to the tune of $80 for a fillup!!!!! That kick-started me to investigate EVs resulting in my first Tesla model 3, and I now I won't go back (especially with solar at home).
At any rate, model Ys are sold out for the whole quarter and I only expect this demand to slightly soften in March, when Tesla's partially qualify for half the $7500 rebate.

That's not how I remember it at all. I think they were all set to launch their independent dealers in ~2009. Then the Great Recession happened, and they decided, maybe right now is not the best time to spend $2 Billion on a new dealer network....
It’s not hard to tell. Tesla outsold BMW in the US last year, and their vehicles did not qualify for a federal credit last year.
And most BMWs are leased, and as of this year BMWFS can take the 7500 credit as the lessor and factor it into the deal. The North American manufacturing requirement doesn’t apply in this situation.
if the cars aren’t selling, it’s not for the reasons you think.

I was willing to take that chance, but never got the opportunity (they delayed my order), so in the end I just ended cancelling it.
Can't wait until the Neu Klasse gen cars comes out. Should be a lot more competitive performance/range wise and hopefully.somewhat price wise.

You had to purchase an i4 or iX to get the $7500. The $7500 from BmwFs just started this month. Again demand for those cars is not what it was just a couple months ago and I think the federal incentive big part of that. Also even if Teslas didnt get the tax credit last year there are other incentives to encourage you to get an EV. In NJ for instance you dont pay sales tax. Not a small thing, especially when I see people go through alot of hoops to not pay tax on cars (montana llc)
I did get a $7500 straight off the price when I took delivery of my Polestar in January 2022 (that tax credit is no longer available), but regardless I would of still bought it even without the credit. When it's time to buy either a Model 3 or Y this summer, I'll be doing so regardless with or without a tax credit being available.
The attraction of EV'S for me is their tech, high performance, and lastly their almost no maintenance and cheap fueling costs
Oh boy, don't get me started on my disdain for oil companies! They make record profits and still are subsidized by the billions by us! 🤦🤬
I think EV credits are a good idea, though I would like to see income limit lowered. As we transition to a different transportation propulsion system (what a time to be alive!), we risk alienating the ones that can't afford to buy something say a Nissan leaf. 150k/300k limits seems like it's just handouts.
But that's in the US. Not sure how it is in CAN where you're at...

So back to EVs. EV adoption is behind most of the world. But carbon emissions have increased….
sad for the younger generation….the future is “you own nothing…but you’ll be happy”. Younger people don’t know any better
Energy manipulation, energy policy that are restrictive do not work

That's more generous than California, which gives you a one time $2000 rebate. There are some tax write-off you can take, but you need a good accountant to get those.
